Our educational goals for the young people who participate in SOS are to learn performance and leadership skills; develop a host of important personal qualities such as accountability, community service, and discipline; become agents of change in the lives of their peers; and motivate youth to make positive lifestyle changes and find resources and support to address the problems in their lives.
SOS will serve as an intensive training opportunity for actors as they join the SOS mission. Participants will learn the fundamentals of educational theater, encouraged to memorize lines and explore character development in an art form that may be a completely new experience for them. The Directors will ensure that each participant is challenged based on their individual level of comfort and skill level. For some, that might mean walking on stage and saying one line in one sketch, for others it might be performing highly demanding monologues in several sketches. SOS will challenge the participants to grow in their abilities as a presenter, actor, facilitator and leader.
